Clergy
Fr. Carlos Valencia, CJM
Rev. Carlos Valencia, CJM, Associate Pastor, was born in Colombia and was ordained March 14, 1975. After three years as Assistant Pastor in his Archdiocese of Bucaramanga, Colombia, he was sent to the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem. He returned to his diocese and served as Director of Formation and Spiritual Director at the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga for five years and a few years as pastor in parishes before joining the Eudists in 1993. From 1993 until he came to our parish in August, 2012, he served in major seminaries in Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil and Columbia. He also served as rector of the Eudist regional house of formation in La Mesa (San Diego) for one year. His passion is the Holy Scriptures. Since his return from Rome and Jerusalem, he never stopped teaching the Bible in the various countries, universities, seminaries, diocesan centers and parishes where he has been called to serve. Fr. Carlos put together a booklet entitled “Sintesis Biblica” in order to help read Holy Scriptures from a historically critical perspective, with the goal to help the reader go from a literal reading of the Holy Scriptures to a symbolic reading of the Word of God, taking into account the various literary forms. The results have been most positive and have given communities a very efficient tool for a more mature religious growth.
